If horde webmail is not working on windows + plesk server and receiving following errors when login to horde….

This happens mainly because PHP and Zend installers force PHP to use a default configuration file for all applications, but horde uses a special configuration file which is placed to its folder.

Solution:
Please edit registry by command regedit and clean up the default configuration location by removing the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\php\IniFilePath

Solution:

Delete source file of perl module “XS.pm”located at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Template/Stash/
Absolute path should be /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Template/Stash/XS.pm
Then install perl module by cPanel script /scripts/perlinstaller
/scripts/perlinstaller Template::Stash:XS.pm. It can also install from the WHM
Once it install just update cPanel by using command /scripts/upcp –force

How does the Conficker worm work?

The Conficker worm is a computer worm that can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction.

WORM: Win32/Conflicker attempts to make numerous connections to the computers across the network (from infected System) finding new hosts (systems) that have weak passwords, shared files on network, removable disks, and outdated Security updates.

Computers on the network without latest Security updates OR outdated updates may get infected with the worm.

Computers with open shares and Shared network files on network can easily targeted by this worm.

Removable devices like USB Pen drives, Flash Drives, USB sticks, External Hard Drives may get infected with this worm and infect other computers where these media will be used for data transmission.

Shared Computer with weak password may get infected. So, make sure to keep strong password. Also use Numbers and Special Characters while setting Passwords.

Computers with a proper Password Policy, current Security Updates, Antivirus OR Security Software and Secured Network Share are protected from Conflicker Worm.

ERROR: cannot contain ‘..’ to indicate the parent directory

While developing a website there are many code snippets which are used on various pages. In such cases the website developers save such code snippets in a particular file and call the in pages using <!–#include file=”filename.asp”–> (in ASP). This helps to reduce the length of code.script of a webpage and eliminates the scripting Errors. In IIS sometime when you try to access some pages which have such includes it shows following Error:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131'

Disallowed Parent Path

/test/main.asp, line 1

The Include file '../common.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.

Here the line 1 of main.asp contains following code snippets.

You receive this error message if the application calls an ASP method that requires the Parent Paths option to be enabled. By default, the Parent Paths option is enabled in IIS 5.0, but it is disabled by default in IIS 6.0.

This problem can be resolved by enabling Parent Paths for the website.

1) Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

2) Double-click your computer name in the left pane, and then double-click Web Sites.

3) Locate the Web site and directory that houses the ASP application and Right-click the application site or directory, and then click Properties

4) Select Home Directory, and then click Configuration.

5) Click Options, and then click to select the Enable Parent Paths check box

6) Press “OK” and restart IIS.

Now try to access the Same Page or URL again.

MSSQL Connection Error with PHP

mssql_connect() is a function which establishes a connection to a MS SQL server using PHP. To use MSSQL database in PHP page make sure that MSSQL dll is enabled in PHP. To check open php.ini file and search for following

extension=php_mssql.dll

Sometime it happens that when you try to connect MSSQL database using PHP it throws following Error (espiceally when you have installed PHP 5)

Warning:  mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server:  SERVER\SQLEXPRESS in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\dbconnection.php on line 6

The problem come due to higher version ntwdblib.dll available with PHP 5. The simple fix for this problem is to replace the ntwdblib.dll with old version. You can download the Old version of dll file from http://trulymanaged.com/downloads/ntwdblib.dll OR if you have Plesk Control Panel you can directly copy/replace C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntwdblib.dll with C:\Parallels\Plesk\additional\PleskPHP5\ntwdblib.dll

SSH Error: /etc/shells is either world writable or not a normal file

Recently while trying to login into a VPS; SSH was not accepting Password for the user root. So, I logged into the VPS from Hardware Node (Host Server) and checked /var/log/messages to get exact Error. Following are the logs which were stored in /var/log/messages file

Feb 23 23:51:10 server PAM-shells[13512]: /etc/shells is either world writable or not a normal file
Feb 23 23:51:14 server PAM-shells[13512]: /etc/shells is either world writable or not a normal file
Feb 23 23:51:17 server PAM-shells[13535]: /etc/shells is either world writable or not a normal file
Feb 23 23:52:49 server sshd(pam_unix)[15414]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=server.example.com user=root

When I checked the permissions of the file /etc/shells and it was set to 777 (universal writable).

root@server [~]# ll /etc/shells
-rwxrwxrwx  1 root root 32 Feb 23 23:54 /etc/shells*

So, I changed the permission of the file to 644 and able to login into SSH.

root@server [~]# chmod 644 /etc/shells
root@server [~]# ll /etc/shells
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 32 Feb 23 23:55 /etc/shells
root@server [~]#

CPanel of any domain shows following Error on MySQL Databases Section of Left Hand Side Panel

SOLUTION:

This error comes when Perl modules for database are outdated OR not installed. You can install them using following Commands:

root@server [~]# perl -MCPAN -e shell

cpan> install Bundle::CPAN
cpan> reload cpan
cpan> install HTTP:ateate
cpan> install HTTP:Date
cpan> install Net::AIM::Connection
cpan> install Net::AIM
cpan> install Tie::IxHash
cpan> install DBI
cpan> install DBD::mysql

Restart MySQL.

Plesk ERROR: PleskMainDBException

While accessing plesk control panel, somtime we get following Error

SOLUTION:

The Main reason of this problem is corrupted Plesk Database. We can check that using following command

[root@server ~]#  mysqlcheck -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow ` psa
psa.APSApplicationItems
error    : Table 'psa.APSApplicationItems' doesn't exist
psa.APSClientApplicationItems
error    : Table 'psa.APSClientApplicationItems' doesn't exist
psa.APSLicenseTypes
error    : Table 'psa.APSLicenseTypes' doesn't exist
psa.APSLicenses
error    : Table 'psa.APSLicenses' doesn't exist

To resolve the issue, please do the following:

- remove corrupted tables from plesk database
- restore them from plesk database distributive

you can do above using following Steps

1. Backup undamaged Tables

mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa -NB -e'show tables' > ../tables
for i in `cat ../tables`
 do
  mysqldump -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa $i > $i.sql
 done

2. Remove Plesk database from /var/lib/mysql/ manually.

3. Restore the latest valid daily dump which can be found in /var/lib/psa/dumps/ directory.

4. Finally Restore the backup which we have taken on step 1.

  mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa < $i.sql
 done

NOTE: Fix for this problem is completely depends upon the error you are getting. So, be careful before trying this fix.

Plesk :: Site Preview-404 Page Not Found Error

Site preview is a tool provided by SW-Soft in Plesk to view the websites before domain propagation. Using this function a User can test the scripts he/she has uploaded.

Sometime it happens that while trying to access Site Preview it give 404 Page Not Found Error. This mainly happens when the sitepreview.dll is not properly loaded in IIS.

SOLUTION:

This problem can be fixed by adding stiepreview.dll as ISAPI Filters in IIS. To add ISAPI Filters login to the server and go to IIS > Web Sites > Properties. Then chose ISAPI Filters tab and add filter called “sitepreview” located at C:\SWSoft\Plesk\isapi\sitepreview.dll.

NOTE: “C:\SWSoft\Plesk\” Directory can be changed as per your Server Settings
